Prebensen Drive Extension
Planning Started: 2005
Construction Started: 2005
In 2005, Prebensen Drive was extended to provide a western corridor arterial for traffic traveling between the city, Greenmeadows and Taradale.
The northern section of Prebensen Drive is also an important link for Napier port traffic using the Hawke's Bay Expressway.
Planning for the Prebensen Drive extension anticipated Napier's expansion and the additional traffic generated by its growth.
The Prebensen Drive extension also dovetails well in facilitating access to the recently created Parkland Residential Estate, developed at the southeastern end of Lagoon Farm. The council is to further develop the 475ha farm, creating a total of 800 residential sites and a new business park.
The Council has landscaped the well-used route, planting the full-length of Prebensen Drive as an avenue flanked by palm trees. The extended section of road also includes a cycle/walkway - part of the Napier Pathway network.
