CBD Cycle Shelter
Planning Started: November 2010
Construction Started: October 2011
Completed: December 2011
A centrally-located cycle shelter is encouraging more people to cycle into and around the CBD.
The facility, on the corner of Dalton and Station streets, is dual purpose, with 19 stands holding up to 38 bicycles and bays for six motorcycles. The site was chosen because it is ideally suited for library users and commuters and close to public transport.
With a span of 4.2m x 11.7m and 2.3m high, the shelter has built-in lights to help make it safe and secure at nights. The design and construction plans were done by Napier City Council staff and the structure itself made by a manufacturer.
