NZSO Presents: Alexander Shelley Returns
Alexander Shelley Conductor
Pablo Sáinz Villegas Guitar
Leonie Holmes - Frond, from Three Landscapes for Orchestra
Rodrigo - Concierto de Aranjuez
Bartók - Concerto for Orchestra
Virtuoso guitarist Pablo Sáinz Villegas will play Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez. Leonie Holmes’ Frond, from Three Landscapes for Orchestra and Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra remain unchanged. Conducted by Alexander Shelley, this promises to be an amazing tour. The title of this concert tour will change to Alexander Shelley Returns.
Leonie Holmes’ atmospheric Frond unfurls with wisps of delicate melodic fragments - an effect continued in Béla Bartók’s ever evolving Concerto for Orchestra. Together they make a brilliant kaleidoscope of colours and effects.
Such precise soundscapes require a nuanced hand and there is none better than Maestro Alexander Shelley. His intelligent, artistic interpretations are already familiar to NZSO audiences who last welcomed him to New Zealand in 2014.
