15th July Road Closure for Winter Art Deco

Pursuant to the Tenth Schedule of the Local Government Act 1974, Section 342, notice is hereby given that the Napier City Council will close “Masonic Loop” - Emerson Street from Hastings Street to Herschell Street, and Herschell Street from Emerson Street to Tennyson Street on Saturday, 15 July 2017 from 7.00am to 3.00pm. The closure is for the Winter Art Deco Festival.

3rd to 15th July Temp Closure of Northbound Marine Parade

Pursuant to the Tenth Schedule of the Local Government Act 1974, Section 342, notice is hereby given that the Napier City Council will close the northbound lane (city-side) of Marine Parade between Albion Street and Tennyson Street from Monday, 3 July 2017 until Saturday, 15 July 2017. Southbound traffic (sea-side) of Marine Parade will be unaffected. The closure is for a wastewater pipeline renewal.

Proposals wanted for Port Ahuriri tragedy monument

Napier City Council is seeking proposals for an art installation to commemorate the 1932 sinking of the launch Doris in which 10 men tragically drowned. The story of the Doris tragedy is not widely known, nor commemorated, as local historian Michael Fowler pointed out in an article published late last year. He suggested a memorial could be installed on Perfume Point Reserve near the entrance to Port Ahuriri (off Nelson Quay) and Council agreed.

Agrichemical Spray Programme

Notice is hereby given that the Services Department of the Napier City Council will be commencing a selective Agrichemicals Spray Programme for a duration of 6 months from 16 May 2017 to 17 November 2017. This is for the control of broadleaf weeds on the sportsgrounds and reserves areas. In accordance with Growsafe Agrichemical user code NZS 8409-2004 signage “SPRAYING IN PROGRESS” will be visible in the areas being sprayed.

Napier takes precautionary approach to positive water test

Napier City Council has this afternoon chlorinated the water in one of its reservoirs after routine testing returned a positive test for e-coli. The reservoir is the Enfield Rd reservoir and it services much of Napier including Taradale and Bay View during peak season. All other reservoirs tested on the same day returned clear results.
