National Aquarium of New Zealand

National Aquarium at night. If you're visiting the region, make sure that a visit to the National Aquarium of New Zealand is definitely on your to do list while in Hawke's Bay.

With so much to see and do you'll need to allow two hours to take in the displays and activities on offer at the aquarium.

Visit around 10am or 2pm and you will see the exciting diving displays where the feeding demonstrations never fail to delight! Alternatively Penguin feedings at 9.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm can be an ideal opportunity to see these fascinating creatures up close!

The moving walkway is also great fun where you can be mesmerized as it spirals you along underneath the Oceanarium and you truly feel like you're part of an underwater adventure. You'll see hundreds of fish species, including a variety of sharks and stingrays.

While you're under the Oceanarium you might even catch sight of people dressed in wetsuits swimming or diving with the sharks. This is an optional activity and loads of fun!

We also offer 'Close Encounters' for the more adventurous with the chance to feed the Penguins a popular choice. Details are available on request but make sure you book well in advance as spaces are limited.

Other animals and marine life to see at the aquarium include kiwis, seahorses, piranhas, a sea turtle, and eels.
